چکیده

We report cross sections for electron-impact excitation of vibrational quanta in furfural, at intermediate incident electron energies (20, 30, and 40 eV). The present differential cross sections are measured over the scattered electron angular range 10°-90°, with corresponding integral cross sections subsequently being determined. Furfural is a viable plant-derived alternative to petrochemicals, being produced via low-temperature plasma treatment of biomass. Current yields, however, need to be significantly improved, possibly through modelling, with the present cross sections being an important component of such simulations. To the best of our knowledge, there are no other cross sections for vibrational excitation of furfural available in the literature, so the present data are valuable for this important molecule.

New electron energy transfer and cooling rates by excitation of O 2

In this work I present the results of a study of the electron cooling rate, the production rates of vibrationally excited O2, and the production frequency of the O2 vibrational quanta arising from the collisions of electrons with O2 molecules as functions of the electron temperature. The electron energy transfer and cooling rates by vibrational excitation of O2 have been calculated and ®tted to...

Electron collisions with formic acid monomer and dimer.

Processes induced by the attachment of slow electrons to formic acid and its hydrogen-bonded dimer were studied. The elastic cross section and the cross section for the excitation of low quanta of discrete vibrations were found to be of a similar magnitude for both targets. A dramatic difference was found in the excitation of a vibrational quasicontinuum in the 1-2 eV range with the ejection of...

Non-radiative De-excitation of Deep Centres

We develop a quantitative theory of the ratio R of radiative to non-radiative de-excitation based on the Dexter-Klick-Russell criterion for the occurrence of luminescence. The model invokes three essential elements: a promoting mode, an accepting mode, and a set of lattice modes which ultimately absorb the vibrational energy. The ratio R is determined by the relative population of the relaxed e...

Imaging the state-specific vibrational predissociation of the ammonia-water hydrogen-bonded dimer.

The state-to-state vibrational predissociation (VP) dynamics of the hydrogen-bonded ammonia-water dimer were studied following excitation of the bound OH stretch. Velocity-map imaging (VMI) and resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI) were used to determine pair-correlated product energy distributions. Following vibrational excitation of the bound OH stretch fundamental, ammonia fragme...
